تعلیم سے مراد ⇐ لفظ “تعلیم” عربی کے لفظ ” “علم” سے ماخوذ ہے اور اس کا لفظی مفہوم کسی کو دینا یا ” بہم پہنچانا ہے مگر تعلیم محض علم پہنچانے کا نام ہی نہیں ۔

سرسید احمد خاں نے تعلیم کے بارے میں فرمایا

Sir Syed Ahmed Khan said about education:
It is a big mistake to consider education and training as synonymous. They are two different things. Bringing out what is in a person is education and making him capable of a skill is training.

Teaching of Subjects
The subjects taught to the students were generally unrelated to their psychological requirements, age and ability. They had no special connection with the needs and interests of the children. All the emphasis was on mental maturity. In the old education system, not much attention was paid to the balanced development of the child. This education did not have much connection with the physical, emotional and social life of the child.
