ان باغات کا مقصد آمدنی حاصل کرنا نہیں تھا۔ پرانے باغات بذریعہ بیج پیدا کیے گئے تھے۔ ایک اندازہ کے مطابق پرانے باغات کے تحت تقریباً تیسں سے چالیس فی صدی رقبہ بنتا ہے۔ ان باغات کی داغ بیل کرتے وقت موزوں آب و ہوا موزوں زمین یا پودوں کے درمیانی فاصلہ کا لحاظ نہیں رکھا گیا جس کی وجہ سے پودوں کی نشو و نما ، مناسب خوراک ، ہوا اور روشنی ، مہیا نہ ہوئی ورنہ ہی ان کی نباتاتی نشو و نما اور صحت برقرار رہی ایسے پودے چھتری دار بننے کی بجائے سیدھے اوپر کو بڑھتے گئے۔ دیکھنے میں وہ ایک جنگل کا منظر پیش کرتے ہیں۔
