The staff of the Provincial Agricultural Extension Service of Pakistan provides useful information and other technical and practical advice on soil testing, selection of suitable sites for planting orchards, preparation of orchard plots and maps, irrigation, pruning, protection from pests and diseases, obtaining high-quality seedlings, grafting of mango and other seed plants, plant care, improvement of old orchards and gardening.

نیز پھلدار پودوں کی ترقی پر جو تحقیقات کا کام ہو اس کے نتائج سے کاشتکاروں کو پھلوں کی نمائش اور عملی مظاہرہ کی صورت میں آگاہ کیا جاتا ہے اس طرح کا شتکاروں میں باغات لگانے میں دلچسپی پیدا ہو گئی ہے۔ حکومت پاکستان کی کوشش ہے کہ ہر کا شتکاروں اپنی گھریلو ضروریات پوری کرنے کے لیے کم از کم چار پھلدار پودے لگائے ۔ اس سلسلہ میں گاؤں اور یونین کونسل کی سطح پر زیادہ پھل اگاؤ کی مہم جاری کی گئی ہے۔
Farmers
The results of the research work on the development of fruit plants are made known to the farmers in the form of fruit exhibitions and practical demonstrations, which has created interest in planting gardens among such farmers. The Government of Pakistan is trying to ensure that every household should plant at least four fruit trees to meet their domestic needs. In this regard, a campaign has been launched at the village and union council levels to grow more fruits.

Fruits for Human Health
In view of the Agrarian Reform Act, the area under orchards has increased considerably in the last fifteen years. Large landowners have planted orchards on most of their land. Along with the development of education, the nutritional importance of fruits is becoming more evident among the common people. Fruits are very essential foods for maintaining human health. Fruits contain a sufficient amount of vitamins. Therefore, producing more fruits is also important from the point of view of national health.

کواپریٹو فروٹ ڈیولپمنٹ بورڈ پنجاب نے بھی باغوں کی ترقی کے سلسلے میں اہم کردار ادا کیا ہے۔ اسی طرح باقی صوبوں میں کو اپریٹو فروٹ بورڈ قائم کیے جارہے ہیں۔ پنجاب بورڈ کے ذخیرہ جات سے اعلیٰ قسم کے پودے سالانہ موزوں نرخوں پر مہیا کیے جاتے ہیں۔ نیز باغبانی پر ایک جامع اور مفید رسالہ پنجاب فروٹ جنرل اردو اور انگریزی زبانوں میں شائع کیا جاتا ہے۔ اس وقت بورڈ کے دو ہزار سے زائد تاحیات ممبر ہیں جو کہ اس کی کامیابی کا بین ثبوت ہیں۔ یہ رسالہ پڑھے لکھے کا شتکاروں اور باغات کے مالکوں کے لیے مفید ثابت ہوا ہے۔
Fruit
The Cooperative Fruit Development Board Punjab has also played an important role in the development of orchards. Similarly, Cooperative Fruit Boards are being established in other provinces. High quality seedlings are provided from the Punjab Board’s stocks annually at reasonable rates. Also, a comprehensive and useful magazine on horticulture, Punjab Fruit General, is published in Urdu and English languages. At present, the Board has more than two thousand life members, which is a clear proof of its success. This magazine has proved to be useful for educated farmers and orchard owners.

اس کے علاوہ صوبائی محکمہ اطلاعات و اشاعت سرحد بلوچستان اور سندھ سے ماہانہ زراعت کے پرچہ جات اور رسالے مہیا کیے جاتے ہیں۔ شعبہ زرعی سائنس علامہ اقبال اوپن یونیورسٹی اسلام آباد فاصلاتی طریقہ تعلیم کے مطابق باغبانی کا عملی کورس پیش کر رہا ہے۔ کورس کی کتاب جامع ہے۔ جس میں پھلدار پودوں کی کاشت کے جدید طریقوں کے بارے میں عملی ہدایات دی گئی ہیں اور آب و ہوا کے لحاظ سے پاکستان کے مشہور علاقوں میں پھلدار پودوں کے لیے موزوں کاشتی عوامل کا لحاظ رکھا گیا ہے۔ حکومت پاکستان دیگر ممالک سے تجربات کے لیے پھلدار پودوں کی نئی اقسام با قاعدگی سے درآمد کرتی ہے۔ خصوصاً آم کھجور ، سیب ، انار، کیلا، ایو کیڈو اور پرسیمین ( جاپانی پھل ) جیسے پھلدار پودوں پر وسیع پیمانے پر تجربات شروع کیے گئے ہیں تاہم اس سلسلہ میں بہتر منصوبہ بندی کی ضرورت ہے۔
Provincial Department
In addition, monthly agricultural pamphlets and magazines are provided by the Provincial Information and Publication Department of Balochistan and Sindh. The Department of Agricultural Science, Allama Iqbal Open University, Islamabad, is offering a practical course in horticulture through distance learning. The course book is comprehensive. It provides practical instructions on modern methods of cultivation of fruit plants and considers the suitable cultivation factors for fruit plants in the climatically famous areas of Pakistan. The Government of Pakistan regularly imports new varieties of fruit plants for experiments from other countries. Extensive experiments have been started on fruit plants such as mango, date, apple, pomegranate, banana, avocado and persimmon (Japanese fruit), however, better planning is needed in this regard.

Food
It is encouraging that recently at the federal level, the Ministry of Food and Agriculture has formed a Fruit Development Board. In which, apart from representatives of the provincial agriculture departments, owners and farmers of developed orchards have also been included. The main responsibility of the Fruit Development Board is to identify the main problems of orchards and horticulture and find practical solutions to them. It is hoped that this important step will give a boost to the horticulture industry. Along with the development of orchards, the fruit preservation industry has also developed. Squash, marmalade, chutney, jam, jelly, pickle, syrup etc. are prepared from the surplus fruits. There is also a bright prospect of preserving the fruits by packing them in boxes.
